Importance of correct nutrition

Every person should be aware of the importance of nutrition for one’s whole well-being.
Proper diet and nutrition sustains life. Proper nutrition is the cornerstone of healthy and happy living.
People today tend to forget that they do not only eat to be full but should eat to sustain life. Eating without watching what goes into your mouth is like putting garbage in your stomach.
As the saying goes, “we are what we eat” and this is true literally on a cellular level.
Correct nutrition that will be of optimum benefit to the body consists of the intake and assimilation of correctly balanced and adequate amounts of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals as well as fiber, water, oxygen and even light. These essential nutrients are absolutely vital for the balance and functioning of all bodily systems, including all organs, cells, various bodily systems and processes, skin, hair, eyes etc. and to achieve correct nutrition we cannot do without any of them.
What, then, is correct nutrition? A balanced intake of complex carbohydrates consisting of wholegrain products, cruciferous and other vegetables that contain vital phytonutrients as well as fruits of all types. An adequate supply of proteins coming from such things as fish and poultry products, nuts and seeds. All the correct fats such as the essential fatty acids which include omega-6 and omega-3 as well as monounsaturated and other fats. Then there is the need for adequate water intake as well as some fiber too. With this foundation in place, correct nutrition can then be enhanced with the use of vitamin and mineral supplements as well as other appropriate measures like herbs.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) people should consume fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fish to maintain good health. People whose diets consist of 60% Whole grains, 30% fruits and vegetable, and 10% fish are able to avoid chronic diseases like hypertension, arthritis, diabetes, heart diseases and other cardiovascular diseases, and even cancer.
However, to stay healthy we should not just focus on good food. Knowing the importance of nutrition, we should also acknowledge the fact that for one to be truly healthy proper nutrition should be complimented with rest, relaxation, and exercise.
We should also observe healthy living by not eating unhealthy foods and by living a healthy lifestyle- no smoking, no excessive drinking, no late party hours.
In our current world today, there is a huge deficiency of the correct nutrients due to chemical pollution, smoke pollution, refining techniques in food, pesticides and a host of other factors. As a result of this and since correct nutrition is so important for our lives, we need to ensure that we are helping ourselves by taking the full range of nutrients in optimum amounts and subsequently, becoming what we eat.
